Vestibular Rehabilitation
What is the Vestibular System?
Many people suffer from vertigo, dizziness, and impaired balance. These symptoms can occur suddenly, gradually develop over time, or happen due to an accident (trauma). As a result, the vestibular system, more commonly known as the “inner ear”, can be adversely impacted. This system plays a key role in the control of balance and the awareness of one’s body in relation to their environment. While many believe these changes to be normal or just part of getting older, there is much that can be done to potentially decrease or resolve ongoing symptoms.

What is Vestibular Rehabilitation?
Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based program, designed by a specialty-trained vestibular physical therapist, to improve balance and reduce problems related to dizziness, vertigo, or lightheadedness. Vestibular physical therapy aids in retraining the vestibular system to accommodate to these specific physical changes. Most importantly, it provides individuals with the proper training to restore function and return to their prior way of life without fear of sudden onset of these symptoms.
